Also known as Mexican Valerian or Pacific Valerian that belongs to the family Valerianaceae. Valerian is an excellent herb believed to have medicinal properties. It is native to Europe and Asia. Valerenic acids, monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and iridoid glycosides are major bioactive components in Valeriana root. This root has a good source of nutrition because it is rich in minerals like calcium, essential fatty acids, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, zinc, and vitamins like vitamin C, vitamins B1, B2, B3, and beta-carotene (vitamin A precursor). Intake of valerian is good for the nervous system and brain health.
