Triphala consists of 3 types of fruits, these are Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki . Triphala is native to India. The major active component of Amalaki is ascorbic acid, gallic acid. In Bibhitaki the major active components are gallic acid, tannic acid, and ascorbic acid. Haritaki contains gallic acid, tannic acid, syringic acid and epicatechin, and ascorbic acid as active components. It is also called tridoshic Rasayana in Ayurvedic medicine. It has many health benefits. It may have anti-microbial anti-inflammatory properties. It is also rich in antioxidants. It may help indigestion.

Tri means 3 and phala means fruits. So it is a polyherbal preparation comprising of 3 kind of fruits i.e, Terminalia chebula Retz, Terminalia bellirica , Phyllanthus emblica L. And this formulation  is completely native to India.

Triphala contains major four phenolics chemical constituents such as gallic acid, tannic acid, syringic acid and epicatechin along with ascorbic acid. But here 40% of Tannin is present.
