Also known as red sorrel, sheep's sorrel, field sorrel, and sour weed that belongs to the family Polygonaceae. Flavonoids, phytosterol, phenol, tannins, isovitexin, vitexin are the major bioactive components of this plant. It also contains oxalic acid, malic acid, tannic acid, and tartaric acids. This plant has a good nutritional value as it contains vitamin B complex, C, D, E, K, and P, and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, sulfur, sodium, manganese, zinc, and silicon. Intake of this herb is good for the digestive system, renal systems.
