Turmeric is a perennial, rhizomatous, herbacious plant, native to India and South East Asia. The roots are cylindrical, highly branched, yellow to orange, aromatic and 1 m tall. Phytochemical components of turmeric include diarylheptanoids, a class including numerous curcuminoids, such as curcumin, demethoxycurcumin, bisdemethoxycurcumin. It is used for culinary purpose and are highly antioxidative and believed to reduce inflammation.
