Also called Pawpaw. Papaya belongs to the family of Caricaceae. It is native to Mexico and Northern South America. The papaya fruits are a good source of polyphenols and flavonoids, these compounds have antioxidant properties that reduce the oxidative stress of the body. Zeaxanthin is the most potent antioxidant found in Papaya fruit. The papaya fruit is very nutritious though it is rich in several types of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, folate, pantothenic acid, magnesium, copper and potassium. The papaya is well known for having Papain, a protease enzyme. Intake of papaya fruit is good for skin, gut, immune system, joints, eye, and heart health.
