Also called Pawpaw, papaya is a fast-growing plant that belongs to the family of Caricaceae. Native to Mexico and northern South America, it is rich in flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, steroids, and saponins. It also contains vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and a high amount of antioxidants and minerals. Its leaves are rich in papain, chymopapain, cystatin, α-tocopherol, flavonoids, cyanogenic glucosides, and glucosinolates. It is known to be essentially good for health and skin.
