Onion belongs to the family Amaryllidaceae. It is native to southwestern Asia. The major bioactive components present in Onion root are allicin, quercetin, fisetin, diallyl disulfide, diallyl trisulphide, flavonoids, fructooligosaccharides, and thiosulfinates, dietary fiber. It also acts as a prebiotic that helps in the growth of gut microbiota. It also contains vitamins like vitamin B6, folate, Biotin, and C, and minerals like potassium, calcium, and iron. It is also rich in antioxidants that help to neutralize harmful free radicals. Intake of onion is good for the heart, bone, digestive tract, for muscle cells.
