Commonly known as Stinging nettle, Burn nettle, or Nettle leaf that belongs to the family Urticaceae. It is native to Europe and Noth America. Nettle is widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries because of its nutritional value and health benefits. The major active components in Nettle leaves are formic acid, histamine, acetylcholine, xanthophylls, and sitosterol. It also contains vitamins A, B, C, and K and minerals like ferric oxide, potassium, calcium, and silicon. It is rich in antioxidants that protect from free radicals. Intake of nettle leaves is good for joints, skin, kidneys, bones, immune system.

Nettle leaves contain about 40% alpha- linolenic acid, a valuable omega-3 acid and minerals (Ca, K, Mg, P, Si, S, Cl) and trace elements (Ti, Mn, Cu, Fe). Carotenoids can be found in the leaves in different forms of lutein, xanthophyll and carotene.
