Hemp is grown in many parts of the world, including China, Canada, the European Union, and the United States. The plant can be cultivated in a variety of conditions and is known for its resilience and ability to thrive in different climates and soil types. Hemp is typically grown on a large scale, with fields of plants being harvested and processed for their fibers and seeds.
Hemp fibers are harvested from the stalks of the plant, which can reach up to 15 feet in height. The plants are cut and left in the field to dry before the fibers are extracted through a process called “retting”. Retting can be done through either the traditional method of soaking the plants in water or through chemical methods. The fibers are then cleaned and spun into yarn or made into other textile products.
Hemp seeds are harvested from the flowers of the plant. The seeds are small and have a hard outer shell. They are typically removed from the flowers through mechanical processes and then cleaned and dried. The seeds can be used whole or pressed to extract hemp oil, which is high in essential fatty acids and has a mild nutty flavor.
