Also known as Costa Rican pitahaya or Costa Rica night-blooming cactus and pithaya, that belongs to the family of Cactaceae. Hylocereus costaricensis is a self-fruitful plant which means setting fruits with self-pollination. Hylocereus costaricensis contains many bioactive compounds like betacyanins, malic or oxalic acids, tocopherol, phyllocactin, isobetanin, betanin, lycopene, vitamin E, beta-carotene, polyphenols, tannins, nonbetalainic, oligosaccharides, linolenic acids caffeic acid, quercetin, myricetin, and kaempferol and Betalains. Dragon fruit is rich in potent antioxidant nature, strengthening the immune system, and maintaining blood sugar levels.
