Otherwise known as Marapuama, Miranta, Muira puama is a flowering plant, belongs to the genus Olacaceae. It is a small tree with short petioled leaves and tough, fibrous roots, tasting slightly saline and acrid. Growing in the Amazon region, it is rich in antioxidants. The root and wood of Muira puama are used is the manufacture of a variety of medicines.
