It is also known as Tulsi which belongs to the family Lamiaceae. Saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, and tannins are the active components present in holy basil leave. It is a powerhouse of powerful antioxidants like beta carotene, carnosol, ursolic acid, rosmarinic acid, apigenin, eugenol, cirsilineol, and cirsimaritin that play an important role in the oxidative process. It also has good nutritional value. It is a good source of vitamins like vitamins A, C, K, and minerals like calcium, zinc, iron, and Manganese. Intake of these leaves is good for the respiratory system, gut, skin, brain, memory, and circulatory system.
