Also known as cankerwort, bitterwort, blow-ball that belongs to the family Asteraceae. It is native to Eurasia and North America. The major active components in this root are taraxacin that is responsible for its bitter taste. It is rich in alpha and beta carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, tannins, caffeic and coumaric acid, inulin. This root is also a good source of vitamins like vitamins A, B1, B2 B3, C, E, K, and minerals like calcium, sodium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, selenium. It also contains nitric oxide (NO) which plays a major role in the immune system and acts as an intracellular messenger. Intake of this root as raw or powder form is good for our liver, kidney, gallbladder, immune system, and joint health.
