Also known as black tang, rockweed, bladder fucus, sea oak, and cut weed, bladderwrack is an edible green-brown colour alga. Iodine, alginic acid, and fucoidan are its three main active constituents. It also contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, minerals, trace metals, phenolics, phloroglucinol, fucophorethols, phlorotannins, mucopolysaccharides, lipids, and sulphuryl-, sulphonyl- and phosphoryl-glycosyl ester diglycerides. It is also known to have a very high content of antioxidants.
