Belonging to the family of Fabaceae and commonly known as Milkvetch, Locoweed, Goat's thorn, etc., Astragalus is the largest genus of plants in terms of species. These are annual as well as perennial species, with flowers forming in clusters and leaves being pinnately compound. Having major components like polysaccharides, flavonoids, and saponins, Astragalus root is considered to be a traditional Chinese medicine. Astragalus is also known to primarily have antioxidative properties.
