Ashwagandha is also known as poison gooseberry, Indian ginseng, or winter cherry. Belonging to the family of Solanaceae, it is a small plant that produces yellow flowers. Berries, leaves, and roots of this plant are used in ayurvedic medicine. The major active components of Ashwangndha are withanolides, withaferins, saponins. It also contains isopelletierine, anaferine, cuseohygrine, anahygrine, sitoindosides, and acylsterylglucosides. It is rich in antioxidants and has many health benefits.
