Belonging to the Arecaceae family, Acai berry is produced from the acai palm tree. Native to Central and South America, Acai berries are small fruits, reddish-purple in colour. It is also called a Brazilian superfood because it is rich in antioxidants. The two active components present in acai berry are Anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. This berry is rich in fatty acids, especially oleic, palmitic, and linoleic acids but low in sugar. It is a good source of sterols such as campesterol, stigmasterol, and beta-sitosterol. It is very nutracious because it contains 19 amino acids, vitamin A, C, E and minerals like iron, sodium, potasium, Calcium, and fiber. This superfood is good for brain, immune system, heart and gut health.
