Also known as cankerwort, bitterwort, and blow-ball that belongs to the family Asteraceae. It is native to Eurasia and North America. The major active components in this root are taraxacin which is responsible for its bitter taste. It is rich in alpha and beta carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, tannins, caffeic and coumaric acid, inulin. This root is also a good source of vitamins like vitamins A, B1, B2 B3, C, E, K, and minerals like calcium, sodium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.
