The major active components are alkaloids, xanthine, theobromine, and caffeine. It also contains phenylethylamine, tyramine, tryptamine, serotonin, cathechic tannins, starch, sugar, and protein substance. It is rich in antioxidants and has many medicinal and nutritional properties. Most commonly it is used for chocolate preparation.
