Also known as African marigold, marigold is an annual herb, belonging to the family Asteraceae. Native to Mexico, these flowers are available in a wide range of colours. Marigold is cultivated worldwide mainly for commercial purposes. It consists of limonene, terpinolene, myroxide, piperitone, piperitenone, piperitenone oxide, and b-caryophyllene. It has a rich content of carotenoids, which are extracted and used in food preparation as a colouring ingredient. It is known to be helpful in digestion and many other health conditions.
