Native to Asia, China, the Arabian Peninsula, Africa, and Australia, Gymnema is a perennial woody plant. Commonly known as gurmar, it has a number of medicinal properties. Its major active components are gymnemic acid, tartaric acid, gurmarin, calcium oxalate, glucose, stigmasterol, betaine, and choline.
