It is a naturally occurring amino acid that acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter when it binds to the GABA receptor in the central nervous system. It is synthesized during the enzymatic reaction by glutamate decarboxylase of Glutamate in the cytoplasm of the presynaptic neurons. GABA is very essential for the nervous system. GABA can be taken as a dietary supplement or from fruits and nuts. GABA deficiency can cause many neurological disorders. Pyridoxine deficiency can also cause GABA deficiency and that leads to severe neurological disorders.
