Production & Sourcing

Chinese asparagus, also known as Tie Gan Lan or Tian Guan Miao, is a type of asparagus that is indigenous to China. It is commonly grown in the regions of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and Zibo, Shandong. Chinese asparagus is also cultivated in Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand. The production of Chinese asparagus begins in early spring when the soil has thawed and is warm enough for planting. The seeds are typically planted in well-drained, sandy loam soils that are rich in organic matter. Once the seeds are planted, they are watered regularly and the shoots are harvested when they reach a height of about 15-20cm. Chinese asparagus must be harvested by hand, as the shoots are delicate and can easily break. The asparagus is harvested by snapping off the shoots at ground level.
