Also known as California buckthorn, Sacred bark, Bearberry, etc. which belongs to the family of Rhamnaceae. Cascara bark has a bitter flavor in nature that will stay in mouth for a long time. Cascara is native to Columbia, California, and North America. Cascara Sagrada contains many phytochemicals constituents like glucofrangulin A,B, anthrones, anthraquinones, physcion, emodin, chrysophanol, sanurtin N, glucuronide, sulfate derivatives, sennosides, anthracene group, tannin, alkaloids, glutaraldehyde, hydrofluoric acid, acetic acid ,naloxone Serotonin (or 5-hydroxytryptamine [5-HT]), minerals like magnesium, sodium citrate, sodium phosphate. It is good for stomach health.
