Also known as checkerberry or teaberry that belongs to the family Ericaceae. It is native to the south to Alabama and northeastern North America from Newfoundland west to southeastern Manitoba. The bioactive components present in wintergreen leaves are m-Ethylbenzonitrile, 1-Mehtoxy-1-buten-3-one, 4- Fluorobenzyl alcohol, 5-Methylcyclopent-1-ene-1-carboxyl, Methyl Salicylate. Herbal oil is also prepared from these leaves that have a lot of therapeutic value. Intake of these leaves is good for kidneys, bones, joints, stomach, nervous system health.
