Native to Asia, Gymnema Sylvestre is a woody perennial vine. Also known as Gymnema, Australian cowplant, and Gudmar, it is a creeper having leaves with soft hairs. The Sanskrit term ‘Gudmar’ translates to destroyer of sugar. Its leaves and extracts contain gymnemic acid which temporarily supresses the taste of sweetness.
