Also known as bitterwort, blow-ball, and clock flower, it is an herbaceous, perennial plant. Native to Eurasia and North America and belonging to the family of Asteraceae, it has a branched tap root system. The active components of dandelion root are carbohydrates e.g. inulin, carotenoids e.g. lutein, fatty acids e.g. myristic acid, minerals, sugars e.g. glucose, fructose, and sucrose, choline vitamins, mucilage, and pectin. It is also known to be rich in antioxidants.
