Also known as Bitter gourd, Bitter squash, Balsam pear and Bitter apple, that belong to the family of Cucurbitaceae. It is widely growing throughout Asia. Bitter Melon is a dry season staple food, and it is a well-known edible fruit. Bitter melon contains many biologically active compounds like flavonoids, phenolic acids, glycosides, triterpenes, alkaloids, essential oils, momordicoside D, momordicin, charantin, and cucurbitacin. Bitter melon is good for blood sugar levels and a potent antioxidant for oxidative stress.
