Also known as Indian Pennywort, Brahmi, Gotu Kola is an herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the family of Apiaceae. The stem of Gotu Kola is slender, creeping, and green to reddish-green in color. It contains triterpenoid, mainly asiaticoside and brahmoside. It is used both for culinary and medicinal purposes. Traditionally, it has been used to treat various health disorders. These leaves are the powerhouse of antioxidants like polyphenols, that reduce the effect of free oxygen species. It also has a good nutritional value in that it contains fibers, vitamins like vitamin A, B2, and C, and minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium.

Gotu Kola grows best in tropical and subtropical regions where there is ample sunshine and high humidity.
Gotu Kola is typically propagated through seeds or by dividing the root clumps. The plant grows well in moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. It is usually harvested by hand, and the leaves are picked when they are young and tender. Once harvested, the leaves can be used fresh or dried for later use.
